Yuchen Chen is an artist, designer, and curator. He received his BFA in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and is currently pursuing a Master in Design Studies (MDes) at Harvard University, with a focus on Mediums. His research explores how human sensory experience can function as a vehicle for information transmission, and how interactive sensory systems might evolve into a new form of “human language.”
In Chen’s practice, “play” is not a moment of leisure outside the act of making, but a method for building relationships with audiences. Drawing from linguistics, communication theory, and sensory experience, he works across installation, objects, and interactive formats to investigate how perception, media, and meaning are constructed—and how they shift through acts of viewing and participation.
Sensory Studies Project
